Experience

Collège Mont Notre-Dame de Sherbrooke: This was my latest 13 week practicum at an all girls private school in Sherbrooke, where I taught secondary 4 and 5 Enriched IB English as a Second Language. I had 6 classes of 30 to 36 girls a class, and I taught various novel studies, writing skills, grammar and pronunciation. I exercised creative freedom in Secondary 4, and used guidance and proven materials for Secondary 5.

Supervisor: Doreen Morissette

Secondary 4 and 5

École internationale du Phare: This was my 6 week practicum last year, where I taught Enriched IB English as Second Language to students in Secondary 3 and 5 at a public international school. I had 2 classes of Secondary 3 and 2 classes of Secondary 5. I had a lot of freedom in regards to leadership and creativity for the secondary 5 classes, which very much prepared me for my final practicum. I also experimented with evaluation and feedback, and creating appropriate learning situations that matched a fair assessment.

Associate: Marie Claude Codère

Supervisor: Lois Garneau

Secondary 3 and 5

École primaire Sacré-Cœur: This was my 2nd year practicum, and  I rotated teaching core level English as a Second Language from grades 1 through 5 at a vocational arts elementary school. A lot of the practicum was spent team teaching with my associate with the eventual final goal of a full week of independent planning, evaluating and teaching. I enjoyed this practicum, however it was difficult becoming familiar with the students as I taught so many different levels and only came in for a half day once a week.

Associate: Jeanne-Mance Blais

Professor: Dr. Darren Millington

Cycle 1, 2 and 3

Local Public Libraries: I had the opportunity to begin an ESL program at a Public Library for the newcomers in the Greater Toronto Area. I offered both group and private classes that varied in levels. It was my first experience teaching adults, and I was a little apprehensive about creating appropriate content, however through using practical and authentic materials I was able to create relevant and educational lessons.
