Differentiation

Although I taught 6 classes, I only really had to plan for 2 groups. However, a lot of differentiation was involved, and although the classes carried much of the same content, the instruction and path to knowledge varied greatly.

The ways in which I differentiated classes relied on technology, division of time and classroom environment.

Technology was used to stimulate groups if extra motivation was needed or even as a brain break. It was also sometimes used a reward if the group remained on task the entire period. For example, while studying Romeo and Juliet the girls listened to one English Love Song each class.

Some classes were given more free time to work independently, while others were more guided in a group teacher lead scenario.

Classroom environment greatly influenced the overall lessons and through the creation of seating plans I was able to create learning situations that gave students comfort while challenging them.

Through differentiation I learned that every class, student and lesson is different, and the appropriate adjustments have to be made to create the ultimate learning experience.
